Yes, each expansion is actually a stand-alone game for 2 players. Unlike the base game though, each expansion only has 2 unique bases for each faction instead of 4.

Why is this called an Expansion if it is a standalone game?

Because you do not need to buy core set to play. Core set starts with 8 teams, expansions have only four teams each except the newest one has 5. You can still play a 1vs1 player game with the expansion sets.

Does this game have victory tokens?

Yes, every Smash Up expansion (except for the Big Geeky Box) comes with victory point tokens.

Smash Up: Science Fiction Double Feature Expansion is a standalone game for 2 players, but can also be added as an expansion to the base game. Playing with more than six players is not recommended as it becomes hard to stay focused during turns, but two smaller games can be played simultaneously or a 45 second time limit can be set on turns. This expansion comes with two bases for each faction and victory point tokens. The factions included in this expansion are Cyborg Apes, Shapeshifters, Super Spies, and Time Travelers. The new factions are designed to work synergistically with each other and playing the expansion as a standalone game is suggested.
