I believe you can use these instead of a candle wick

Yes they are but be careful it’s soft wood and sucks the stain up!!!

Are some strips thin enough to bend and glue around a circular piece of wood?

I soaked a toothpick (the thick pointy kind) for two 24 hour periods, bending it to a shepherd's hook midway through & used a rubber band to help hold it on that 2nd 24 hour period. It worked quite nicely until I was able to glue it against my project. Viola!
