I use it as a hair trimmer. You could use it to shave but depending on how much growth you have, it may not cut close enough for you. However, it's great for trimming and precise in edging.

In my professional opinion, I feel the razor edger cuts sharper for better detailing.

What other shavers could anyone recommend for balding?

Well, more than anything these machines are used for shaping up, not really for shaving a whole head. If you are looking for something like that, you might want to try the Andis Master Clippers or even the Wahl Seniors machines that are of great quality and are made for that type of job. Can I use this for daily shaving? I want to replace my Andis T-Outliner because the replacement blades are always junk.

My husband uses it for trimming his mustache, I use it to trim the back of his neck. Other than that, I don't know.

Where can I find the guards for this online?

I'm pretty sure there are no guards for this since it's for pretty much shaving in to outline the edges of a haircut.
