My second one came with a bloom that lasted about 5 days. Then the entire container filled up with back mold and I had to throw all of it away. This was the 2nd one because of problems with shipping on the first. I cannot recommend this orchid bonsai.

Orchids need bright indirect sunlight. If you keep this under your desk light at work, the answer is not long no matter what the seller says.

Does the gel pack float if I wanted to put it in a bigger container of water?

The gel is tight against the sides of the container so it's hard to take it out of the container without damaging the bonsai. Mine didn't last that long...the gel dries up.

What color orchid is this?

The one I got was yellow. I'm not sure if it is ever different.

What happens after one year? Can you replant the orchid or it just dies and that's it?

I hadn't read that gel has to be added. It's supposed to be nutritive so smashed beads probably aren't a good idea.

Does the flower spike need to be removed when the flower dies?

This is a minute flower. Mine arrived damaged with no flower. So I had to return it. I comes immersed in a transparent gel. That was my experience.
