How do you clean these?

Just unscrew the basin remove the discs (will separate to easily clean) and wash with clean water source.

I’ve unscrewed the cap to expose the cylinder discs but can’t pull out the cylinder to clean all the discs. Is the cylinder removable?

Yes just pull straight out is is just held in place by the o-ring.

Is this a straight inline or angled like in the picture?

Like picture, angle configuration.

Will it function properly if it’s upside down? Filter up instead of down

Yes just have to have it plumbed in the proper direction of flow.

Will water backflow through this filter once the pump is turned off?

Yes it can. There is no check valve in it to stop the water from flowing back.
