Never even crossed my mind, I had a DIY stand before this and I like this version much more, the USB-C (I think that's the one) has guards for the front and back of the lower part of the console, they are snug but do no harm, I think you should like this dock more than the original due to heat and believe me I have damaged joy cons that were cooked. This dock is not ugly by any means.

Will this work for the switch lite?

As far as I am aware the Switch Lite has zero capacity to display on a TV.

Can you hook up a mouse and keyboard to this?

I too have a samsung tv and they just don’t get along with Nintendo at all. When I first got the switch it did work with my tv but it looks like Samsung went ant Nintendo. Bummer.

Once I plugged it in to the wall socket. I just put my switch in the cradle. It should turn on and start charging. If the switch has a cover on it. It may prevent it from connecting to the cradle at the bottom.

Will the docking station turn on by holding the home button on the controller like the OEM dock?

Yes, it will indeed turn on just like the OEM dock by holding the home button on the controller (tested on a Switch Pro controller).
