Black or silver color, other than price is there a difference?

There is no difference about the color (B or S). Just I can tell you it is a great Phono or maybe the best under 500 boxes. Do not hesitate, you have to try one of this.

Is this unit 220volt as shown in the photos?

You have a sharp eye. I did not notice that. I have mine plugged into 110vac and it works very well. Highly recommend this product!!!

Can these units be stacked or do they need to be separated?

The 2-unit design is intended to reduce hum that may be picked up by the power supply, so stacking would not be a problem. Besides, Amazon offers a 30 day return. I don't think you can go wrong.

What is the maximum gain that this preamp provides?

Using a Moving Magnet cartridge is 40db gain and a Moving Coil cartridge is 60db gain.

How does this preamp compare to using the built-in Yamaha aventage phono preamp?

If your phono preamp is built into either the TT or the amplifier then I believe the Vincent would provide superior sound. However I am not familiar with the Yamaha preamp.

Vincent PHO-701 is a phono preamp made in Germany that is praised for its tremendous sound quality. It has a maximum gain of 60db for Moving Coil cartridge and 40dB for Moving Magnet cartridge. It also has a USB port for digitizing Vinyl music up to 24 Bit / 192 kHz. There is no difference between black and silver colors other than the price. It has received positive feedback from many customers for its ability to make a significant difference in the sound quality of their audio systems. Some have described a boost of warm bloom on some recordings, incredible detail, good separation of instruments, and deep, tight bass. However, one reviewer found it flat, boring with lower dynamic and returned it. Pros and Cons are as follows:
