This 1/4-inch tubing is meant for a head pressure of 25 - 35 psi, and a large, full rain barrel set at about 4 - 6 inches above ground level will not have the pressure to deliver sufficiently to typical drip irrigation drippers. Also, bear in mind that the flow rate will decrease as the barrel empties. You might try getting some 1/4-inch aquarium tubing and testing various lengths starting with just open-ended tubing and a full barrel to determine whether this size tubing will meet your needs. How far apart would you place the driplines in sandy soil?

It depends on what you are planting. I use the recommended spacing from the seed package which is why I got 9 inch spacing and run the next lines at least 12" for most of what I grow.

Can this be used below surface?

This can be used above ground or under mulch. It cannot be buried under thick dirt or soil.

Will this item work with drip depot 1/4 inch fittings?

It should work with any 1/4" fitting.

This 1/4" drip line is a great water delivery method for fruit trees and bushes around properties. However, every so often, defects in the line can be found where the pre-punched holes do not line up with the in-line drip emitters. As a result, half of the emitters may not work, causing plants to die. This tubing is great for use above ground or under mulch but cannot be buried under soil or dirt. The tubing can be used with any 1/4" fitting. The length of a run depends on water pressure, while the spacing of driplines will depend on what is being planted.
