Does yarn ever catch on this ring?

Bamboo yarn catches so I slow my pace down which is not a bad thing. I’m sure my stitches are more even.

Can I use this ring with a bulky yarn?

This ring does not work with bulky yarns, which is too bad because those are the yarns that tire my hands the most. However I use my rings all the time for 4 ply and thinner yarns. They help to lessen the tension in my hands. Hope this helps you.

Will this ring work if I crochet with a 4 weight yarn?

The regular yarn seems to work fine. Not sure about a bulky yarn. The rings are adjustable but they're also rather flimsy. They are pretty.
