It is 24V. Please note that if your controller (timer) is not putting out at least 20V, your valves will not open fully, resulting in reduced water flow to the sprinkler heads.

Does the valve assembly come with the solenoid?

Ours does or we sell the solenoid separately.

Does this come with a 24V adapter included? If not, where to buy?

This valve needs 24V to operate. If your sprinkler system is not 24V, then you would need to upgrade your control box to supply 24V.

Is there a trick to making this not leak from the 9 screws/diaphragm area when replacing the top half of a 30 year old Richdel (now Irritrol) valve?

I just replaced the entire unit and had no problems. I replaced 3 in all. Also, a 30 year old system.

How is it controlled to open and close?

The valve is controlled by your timer box from the two leads that connect to a zone inside your timer box! Once you install the valve, you will hook up the two leads to two wires going to the timer box and put those two leads on a zone and then program the zone.
