Are these canvas belts 100% cotton and 1.5 inches wide?

They are 1.5" wide. The belt itself is thinner than the military issue belt. They look like cotton but have the feel of a combination of cotton and synthetic. When I cut them shorter, I torched the end, and it melted as if they had nylon in it.

Just remove the metal buckle and toss the fabric part of the belt in the washing machine. You can also wash it by hand, rinse it, and hang it on a rack to dry.

Does anyone know how to shorten the belt?

To shorten the belt, unclasp it from the buckle and cut off less than the extra length when you have the belt on. For example, if there is 12 inches left over when the belt is closed, disconnect and cut off about 8 inches from the other end. Then put it back together. You will need scissors, a knife or screwdriver, and perhaps pliers. Leave a few extra inches for overlap and size fluctuation.

Can the crimped metal end piece be taken off and then put back on? I want to decorate the belting.

The buckle is removable, but the other end is crimped in place. It could be pried open and reinstalled with some tools and skill.

The belts are most likely made in China. They are similar to the one bought from the actual Military Supply, just a bit softer but with the same buckles.

This item can be worn by either men or women. These belts are very plain and rugged, so perhaps more likely to be worn by a man. They were issued to my father when he was in the army.
