I have a 100 lb Czech working line GSD that is incredibly strong, and I bought this for a tie out in my front yard. I can confirm this will not break with a GSD running full speed and trying to get to another dog.

I need some carabiners for weight bands. I have a max band that is 2 inches wide. Will that fit across the inside widest part of this carabiner?

I tried with a 2 1/2 inch band. It worked fine. Slight deformity on edges but band sits securely. Does not interfere with the gate when in use. They are called 'elastic' bands for a reason.

Will it rust if it makes contact with sea water?

Mine has not rusted but with any metal that salt water contacts, it will corrode over time. I wash mine down regularly and also lube them to keep them functional.
