Does this taste like banana?

In my personal experience, there is not a real overwhelming banana flavor to it if you do not add more bananas.

Do I have to use banana for the bowl? Can I just use the powder and ice?

The banana is completely optional. It just helps to thicken the mix. Other frozen fruit or ingredients of your liking can also be used.
