Dear W. Zolty, it never happened before for the 40 oz tumbler with handle and straw. Please try to use the tea leaves, then staying one day, and repeat several time then the taste will disappear.

I would imagine if you can put hot or cold beverages in it, then it should be fine.

Why is it hard to get a good sip out of the straw? Does this bother anyone else or am I missing something?

I have not had this problem. You might have the straw sitting on the bottom of the cup so try lifting it up when drinking. Or you may just have a dud straw. Try a different straw and see if it helps.

Has anyone found better clear straws that work with this?

I bought a six pack of 40oz clear straws that work great.
