  Answer : The MIP is always on. You have the option to illuminate for gestures from 5 to 100% backlight or off until you press the light button on the upper left. Easily configurable for workouts. Example: in the gym I have the backlight on when I raise my wrist and no backlight during day run. -not needed. Also no backlight on during my sleep schedule.
