Question : Is this wok coated or bare steel?
Answer : When you receive wok it is coated with protective coat to stop it from rusting, this must be scrubbed off, then wok has to be seasoned, lots of information on line. Basically coated with oil and then heated up to smoking point, maybe do this twice, wipe clean with paper towel. Never wash wok with soap, I personally wash mine with hot water, dry on hob/with paper towels, then rub very small amount of oil with paper towel. I have two, Dexam and School of wok, basically the same, and I love them, people who say they rust do not know how to use them.
Question : What is the width of the base that is in contact with the hob?
Answer : I think it’s about 4 inches but I’m not sure how flat the bottom is, it doesn’t seem to want to sit flat on my gas hob. Great pan otherwi
Question : Is the width measurement the top diameter?
Answer : Yes.
Question : What is base diameter that is in contact with the hob?
Answer : Not sure about diameter sorry, wouldn't purchase I threw my one away after one go, all the carbon came off and started rusting.
Question : Is it flat bottom, thanks?
Answer : It has a flat bottom, as in not a rounded one, and sits very nicely on the solid hobs on my cooker. However it is not as flat and level as a good quality saucepan or frying pan, and really, it doesn't need to be - once you are familiar with your Wok, you use the graduated temperatures around the wok to cook your food at differing speeds. If you are worried about it tipping over - well, mine hasn't yet, but I am careful not to overfill it, which applies to all woks of any sort. Hope this all helps.
