Ours has worked very well under fairly heavy use (4-5 uses/day) for several months now. Quite happy with the quality of construction and performance so far.

Closer to Ferrari red but slightly deeper in cold not candy apple red

Is there a way to make the coffee hotter? It is not hot at all.

The manual has some instructions to program it for 3 different temperature settings. I noticed its supposed to help with water hardness according to the manual. I have VERY lime filled water (all limestone underground here) and this thing, imo, makes quite nice espresso out of the box.

What type of material does the water pass through?

Plastic is the material on the back reservoir. Metal is the material of the steam wand.
