It is primarily used for stainless cable tension on small sailboats. The stainless does not stretch like nylon/poly rope will. Accuracy with nylon or poly is doubtful. If you are comparing two lengths of rope to make them the same, yes, it will work.

Can the PT-3 be used with metric sized wire?

I need to adjust tension on shroud wire sizes 3/16" and 5/32". What model meter do I need to buy?

Unfortunately, you are between sizes and would require the PT-1 for the 5/32 and the PT-2 for the 3/16. The 3/16" PT-2 can be used to measure the tension on 3/16" 7-strand EHS tower guy wire which is far different from the 19-strand wire rope the PT-2 is calibrated for. Use the calibration chart in the manual, not the one attached to the gauge itself.

Is this unit able to be used on an 1/8" cable railing system ?

Yes - down to 3/32" (1/8" is included)

The Loos Gauge PT-3 is a tension measuring tool designed to measure tension in stainless steel cables on small boats, it is not recommended for use on nylon or polypropylene rope. Customers have found that the gauge works well on larger cables, however, for smaller cables, they recommend using larger and more durable Pro gauges or economy gauges. The PT-3 can be used with metric-sized wire, and customers have found it can be used on cables for cable railing systems. Unfortunately, users cannot use this particular model with 5/32" and 3/16" shroud wires and will need to invest in both PT-1 and PT-2 models which have specific calibrations for each size.
