I do not think it would be good for gym use. It is good for climbing but not for the purpose you are asking.

It is comfortable to wear and provides a sense of security for anyone who has to work high above the ground. One user appreciated the product for getting the job done while working with an electric chainsaw. However, some found difficulty operating the security latch of the carabiner. Another user loved the product, but he had to return it because it wasn't adjustable and couldn't fit around his fireman's jacket.
