The story is filled with complex characters, enchanting world-building, and a wonderful blend of romance, action, high stakes, mysteries, and lyrical writing. The author weaves secrets into plaids strong as armor, blades held enchantments, and gossip carried through the wind. The book has a rich history backdrop and is based on Scottish culture with a magical world of the author's making. The character development of both Jack and Torin is splendidly done, and the author hits all the senses in her writing. Although there were instances of poor grammar, this captivating book will leave readers eagerly anticipating the next in the series.
