They go inside the corner brackets to provide grip and to protect the glass.

What are the actual dimensions? The info in the description says 20"x20"x6" but most of the reviews say it is 19"x19"x6".

The length of the glass is 18.5 inches, and the length after installation through accessories, etc. is 20 inch.
