Are these dark chocolate?

I would say they are. They are identical to the original Jr mints. Only about 5 mints in a box. Seems like a lot of wasted packaging to me anyways. Double up the amount per box and it would be less packages. Just my thoughts.

About how big are the mini boxes?

Not sure, they were a gift. I think they are snack size like what you buy for Halloween.
