The length from nut of fixed shower connection to the end of threads of fixed arm is 2.2" (66mm).

Can the flow of water be opposite into & out of the diverter? I need the male end to go into the wall & the female end to go into the shower head.

The end connections determine how the unit is installed as the diverter is not sensitive to water flow direction.

Will the little piece that’s meant for a handheld support the weight of a regular shower head or will it just droop?

The piece is designed for a handheld shower and may not support the weight of a regular shower head effectively.

Has anyone found one of these that does restrict water flow?

Mine does not restrict water flow.

Does the piece that connects to the shower pipe tighten independently or is this all one solid piece?

It is received in one piece, but when you adjust the angle of the shower hose, it may split from the body but can be screwed back.
