The back part is made of sturdy plastic and can hold a full 10lb bag of food. It protrudes a good distance from the wall.

Have any of you experienced a problem with ants or bugs if you leave it on your porch? I live in the south.

I live in the south as well and haven't experienced any more bug problems than with a regular food bowl.

Should the bottle be full of food for gravity to work properly?

No, the feeder will still work until the food is at the very end.

Does the food dispenser sit in or screw into the base?

The food dispenser just sits in the base.

The feeder works on gravity and will dispense food as the bowl empties. It does not overfill with food.

Would this work as a water dispenser too?

No, it is not designed for use as a water dispenser.

I feed feral kitties, does this clog with cat food also?

The feeder can clog if the food has too much protein, but regular cleaning can prevent this issue.
