It isn't standard wire gauge (AWG) but it's very close. I think it's a metric or proprietary diameter. I would use it on an indoor solar application. It seemed like very good wire to me.

The picture shows red/black, the description says blue/black. What color wires were received?

I received red and black wires.

Size of cable effects the amperage that it can withstand. 4 gauge wire is safe to hold up to about 80 amps. Watts is calculated by multiplying voltage (12V car battery) by the amps (80 amps) therefore you will get about 1000 watts that the wire will carry.
