It has a handle that separates from the base and has an internal spring mechanism that maintains consistent pressure when the handle is pushed down. It produces a clicking sound when the pressure is at 30 pounds. It is not recommended to wash it in the dishwasher. The product appears to be heavy and well-made but one review reported that there was no spring, no calibration or clicking sound when they used it - this is in contrast to what was advertised. Another review questioned the difference between matow and motta and the lack of calibration but gave it a good price rating. Others praised the product for its weight, consistent tamping pressure, ease of use and convenience.
