It has everything it needs in the jar. You just have to find a good place to put it, and watch it flower. Just don't put it in direct sunlight because it will fog the glass when it gets too hot. And don't open the lid until it outgrows the jar. At that point, you can take it out and repot it in orchid soil.

Mold! help I have some sort of mold growing around my plant! I’ve had it since Christmas!

So far, mold has only grown in the media after the orchid has bloomed. To preserve the plant once mold appears, break the seal, remove the cork, scoop out the plant, and rinse it and its roots thoroughly, removing all culture media, then transplant to a regular orchid pot. It’s worth repeating that the cork and plastic seal were left in place and undisturbed until transplanting.

What orchid soil would you use to replant when it outgrows jar?

I have had it now for two years and it is still alive and well... but no flower... so I never got it replanted.

I am very interested in this! My office doesn’t have windows, can this grow healthfully with no natural lighting?

I have very little lighting in my office as well (no windows, all artificial). I have only had the plant for a few weeks, but it seems to self-maintain rather well and is already sprouting a new plant. They come with great instructions and the folks are great at their customer service if you have any questions.

Does the plant live past a year, and if so, does it re-bloom?

I have had it for 11 months now and it is quite healthy and has sprouted new leaves and new roots.... but unfortunately, I did not have a flower from it yet.

Do we take off the plastic when it arrives or is that meant to be left on?

No, don't remove the plastic; it will cause the plant to die from other molds, etc.
