Why does the one buyer say it takes 1 hr 30 minutes to cook the rice? I don't believe it, but really, what is the truth?

It depends on the type of rice. Brown rice will take about an hour. Cooking time for white rice is generally around 15-23 mins, and that would generally be the same no matter what method you use (including the microwave) because it's how long it takes rice grains to absorb water. Only pressure cooking can speed things up to about 4-7 mins. Although it certainly wouldn't take 90 mins, if the buyer used the steaming basket to make steamed rice, it may take 30-40 mins. Where these mini-cookers are slow is the boiling phase. Since this only uses 230 watts, it'll take longer to boil the same amount of water than larger cookers, which generally use 700-900 watts. In other words, cooking 1 cop of rice takes longer with this than cooking 1 cup of rice in a higher wattage cooker because it takes longer to bring the water to a boil. Once the water boils, it'll take both about 15-23 mins to finish.

What is the weight of the unit?

It is very light and portable. Sorry, I don’t have it on me get the exact weight.

What kind of voltage does the cooker use, is it usb or regular plug, and is it compatible with us and/or european outlets?

The cooker is wired for US 110 volt with standard us plug.

Can you use it for cooking potatoes, pasta and oats also? I'm vegan and travelling soon, this would be great.

I'm sure you could, but not sure how much time it would take compared to cooking actual rice. It's worth a try! Experiment before traveling though.
