The Loar LM-310FE is an affordable mandolin with a pickup option for recording. Although it doesn't come with a hard case, it's still a lovely instrument with a nice finish and easy playability. One reviewer had success with the electronics, but another had to ship it to the factory for repair, which took 2 months, and still wasn't happy with the sound. Overall, the LM-310FE seems to be a good value for the price, and a nice entry-level option into the mandolin world.
