The center hole is closed from the top and open in the bottom.

I don't see why not as long as the pot is big enough to hold it.

The height is 2 3/4 inches and diameter is 9 1/2 inches with 3 inch wide center “cone”, so each side of center cone would measure 3 1/4 inches all the way around if that makes sense.
