No batteries are required but the probes are not removable.

The Steve Spangler Science Energy Stick Conductor is a fun toy that kids enjoy playing with. It allows for an interactive way to understand electrical conduction and is great for teaching STEM concepts to kids aged 8 to 13. However, the product has some design flaws as it tends to break easily. The connection system for the wires and probes is fragile as they are soldered to the tube's contacts. Despite being an easy fix, it is an inconvenience to have to repair the toy after a short amount of use. There have been some complaints about the noise being too loud, but this is not an issue for everyone.
