Could this be used to get inside of my car as a step for my dog?

I guess it would depend on how tall your car is. It is very sturdy, but it's a one piece bed. How big is the dog using the step?

My pit puppy tore this entire bed up in 4 days, by digging and then chewing through the fabric. If your dog is a casual scratcher, then it's probably fine. But if you have a dog that gets bored and eats things, this is not for you.

Would the aluminum frame get hot outdoors in the summertime?

You can try switching the legs around or turning them in place. The bed is just fine when sitting flush on the floor.
