Is the ring binder removable?

It’s not removable but if you’d like to maybe put it back again one day, you can remove the bolts with pliers so you don’t have to cut through the binder. I did this with another notebook cover and I can put the rings back if I buy the bolts again.

There’s cardboard behind the metal rings. do I simply tear that off? cut it off ? is it shipping protection?

U do remove the cardboard behind the rings. Just pull it out.

Up to how many pockets can it hold?

As far as pockets it has some on the front inside which are good for like business cards. The back has one to slide in extra pages.

Has anyone tried Franklin Planner classic size inserts in this binder? do they fit without modification or are the holes in the wrong place?

I tried it and the holes didn’t line up.

Yes, it needs just a smidge of help to do so.
