I have the older model, and the case fits it very well. Since the slim isn't all that slim from the older model, mainly lighter in weight, it should still be a very good fit. I don't think it'll rattle either (the case is a full front and back lock case) since in volume the models seem to differ only by about 7 cubic millimeters. The rest is up to you.

Is the aluminum a skin or actual sheet aluminum?

The skin is supposed to imitate aluminum, it didn't even fit my vita. Total piece of crap.
