Can this pole be used in a small filled pool to support a tarp?

The poles are designed to fit under a tightly fitted boat cover rather than a loose tarp and a pool bottom.

I have a 17 foot bass boat. Is this support system sturdy enough to leave in place on the trailer or be removed?

Technically, no pole/vent system should be trailered. But, if you are traveling a short distance they can be left in place. However, if you are traveling at high speeds and for a long distance then please remove them.

If the pole I buy is a little too long, can I cut the pole to a desired length?

It is a hollow pole. You could cut it but my concern would be the possibility of bending it in the process. It is a sturdy pole and has worked well so far.

How many come in a pack?

One set, including a bottom foot, a pole, and a canopy vent set.
