It looks like the j-trap in this kit has a threaded outlet, not a captive nut. If you buy a metal j-trap (with a captive nut) look for one that has a thick gauge. The thicker the metal, the longer it will last. The smaller the gauge number, the thicker. It is not possible to engineer a captive nut using pvc.
