How do you get the bit holder to hold bits?

Usually quick change bits, you pull the neck back to lock with this one pull forward to lock. It's this way so it does not pull neck back when drilling in.

How long are the 2 shafts in this kit?

The drill bit shaft is about 22 inches + the length of the drill bit. The extension is about 34 inches. These drills tend to break. I think the trick is that, as soon as you feel it start to bind, stop drilling and reverse the drill to free it. Then try again gently.

Can you use 36â€� extension to apply deck screws?

Technically you *could* do that if you've got the right driver bit that fits into the end of the extension. I'm not sure this would go all that well, though, since the extension is flexible. It'll make driving screws a bit difficult. Why do you need an extension for driving deck screws? Maybe I can help with a better solution.
